The 6th meeting of Interest Group on Algorithmic Foundations of Information Technology (IGAFIT) took place on June 15, 2019, in Copenhagen, during the 4th HALG 2019 conference.
The meeting was attended by 15 IGAFIT members. During the meeting, there have been discussion about European activities in algorithms, discussing some new ideas of how to make European algorithmic community stronger and more attractive for students, early career researchers, and the entire community.
Among many initiatives discussed, the group decided to actively pursue two new important ideas (which has been later successfully implemented)
- to make a bid to host SODA 2022 in Europe (the bid to host SODA 2022 in Florence has been accepted by SIAM), and
- to organize the first IGAFIT Workshop for Algorithms Postdocs in Europe (AlgPiE by IGAFIT).
Next IGAFIT meeting will take place next to HALG 2020.
